It is said to be the only lingam which has named after him other than the one in Rameshwaram, India. Kanniya hot water spring wells
Religious Hindu rituals dedicated to lost loved ones are observed by the Sri Lankan Tamils at this site, believed in folklore to have been started by Ravana, antagonist of the epic Ramayana.According to local folklore, this site is connected with the antagonist Ravana of the Hindu epic, Ramayana. Ravana and his mother worshipped Hindu God Shiva at the Koneswaram temple and the Hot springs of Kanniya. Ravana wanted to remove the temple of Koneswaram when his mother was in ailing health. As Ravana was heaving the rock, Lord Shiva made him drop his sword. When Ravana's mother heard the news, she was wrought with unbeatable sorrow. When Ravana returned, he found his beloved mother's demise and was disheartened. To perform his mother's rites, Ravana stuck the earth with his sword in several spots and several fountains sprang from these points. The water was hot and such was the beginning of the hot water springs.

Sigiriya or Sinhagiri
is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District It is a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock around 180 metres (590 ft) high.
According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Culavamsa, this area was a large forest, then after storms and landslides it became a hill and was selected by King Kashyapa (477 – 495 AD) for his new capital. He built his palace on top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place is derived from this structure — Sīnhāgiri, the Lion Rock (an etymology similar to Sinhapura, the Sanskrit name of Singapore, the Lion City).
The capital and the royal palace were abandoned after the king's death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century.Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. It is one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning.
Cobra hood cave
Also known as the “Parumaka Naguliya Lena”, the Cobra Hood Cave is a natural geological formation, part of the famed Sigiriya rock. It is part of the ancient Ramayana tradition, but there is not much evidence to suggest that anything actually went on here. The only clue is the inscription itself that identifies the cave as the Naguliya cave. It is a clue to Sita herself. The infant Sita was said to have been found in a field by the King of the North Indian Vedic city-state of Mithila. She was named after the ploughshare that struck her, and the word “Naguli” is very similar to the local term for the ploughshare. Her maids in Lanka might have called her Naguli, an equivalent of her actual name but a fitting one considering the details of her discovery.
The inscription itself was done here long after the Lankapura Kingdom had vanished, at the end of the Indian Vedic Era. However as part of the history of Sigiriya it is still a major work of art, with paintings on the hooded neck of the cobra it is supposed to resemble.
Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic or Sri Dalada Maligawa
is a Buddhist temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. The relic was historically held by Sinhalese kings. The temple of the tooth is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple and the relic.
Bhikkhus of the two particular chapters, the Malwathu chapters and Asgiri chapters conduct daily worship in the inner chamber of the temple. Rituals are performed three times daily: at dawn, at noon, and in the evenings. On Wednesdays, there is a symbolic bathing of the relic with a herbal preparation made from scented water and fragrant flowers called Nanumura Mangallaya; this holy water is believed to contain healing powers and is distributed to those present.
The temple sustained damage from bombings by Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna in 1989, and by Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in 1998. However it was fully restored each time.
Shri Bhakta Hanuman Temple

The Chinmaya Mission was established in India in 1953 by devotees of the renowned Vedanta teacher Swami Chinmayananda.
The temple itself is situated about 500m from the main road on a hill having a commanding view of the surrounding area. Legend has it that king Ravana has hid Sita in this area at one time and and Hanuman come to this area in search of her.
Seetha Amman Temple
is located approximately 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) from Hakgala Botanical Garden and 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) from Nuwara Eliya. The temple is located in the village of Seetha Eliya (also known as Sita Eliya). This place is believed to be the site where Sita was held captive by Asur Samrat (Devil King) Ravana, and where she prayed daily for Rama to come and rescue her in the Hindu epic, Ramayana.[1][2] On the rock face across the stream are circular depressions said to be the footprints of Lord Hanuman.
It was the location where Sita, the wife of Rama, was held captive by Ravana after her abduction, also because she refused to stay in Ravana's palace and preferred to stay under shimshapa tree in Ashoka Vatika. It was here that Ravana's wife Mandodari came to meet her and also where Hanuman met her for the first time, and identified himself with the finger ring of Rama.
Ashoka Vatika
Ashoka tree (Saraca asoca), often known as Sita-Ashok owing to its connection with the Ramayana
Sita stayed at Ashokat Vatika until the end of the epic battle between Rama and Ravana, which resulted in the destruction of Ravana himself and most of this clan. Much of the Ashoka Vatika was destroyed by Hanuman when he first visited Lanka searching for Sita. Also destroyed was the Pramda Van at the centre of the Ashok Vatika.
Divurumpola Temple
After message of Ramas victory over Ravana was sent to Sita She was overcome with emotions as she was meeting her husband after such a long time. But Rama spoke. “I have killed my enemy. I have done my duty as s true king. But you have lived for a year in this enemy’s abode. It is not proper I take you back now”.
Then sita Devi answered “You have broken my Heart, only the uncultured speak like this. Have you forgotten the noble family I come from? Is it my fault Ravana carried me off by force? All the time my mind, my heart, and soul were fixed on you alone, my lord!”
Ramayanaya facts states that she turned with tears streaming from her eyes to Lakshmana and said Please prepare a fire for me. That will be the only remedy for this no softening, he lighted a big fire. Sita reverently went round her husband and approached the blazing fire joining her palms in salutation, with these words she jumped into the flames and said, “If I am pure, fire will protect me.” From the flames arose the fire god Agni who was invoked by Sita. He lifted her from the flames unharmed and presented her Lord Rama.
